Chapter 29

"I'm happy"

While we were sitting in the sun on the large steps in front of the house, Mary told me how in Venice she was worried about the interest that Papa showed in me. He then realized that I was not looking for indirect fame, that my affection would not turn into love, that I was not a danger. In fact, he was now thanking me for my positive influence. Finally, she was once again worried because relations between her and Papa were a bit strained, as perhaps I had noticed.
