man with mysterious powers, called the Wizard of Naples, and I had decided to ask for her help to put some order in the tangle of my confused bitter feelings.
Having carefully stolen my clothes from the bathroom I had sneaked out of the house. I had made some effort to tell the Danieli gatekeeper that I wanted to see the Wizard of Naples. I had followed the boy from the hotel with a vague sense of guilt. I had told a rather ordinary-looking gentleman who qualified as secretary to the Wizard of Naples that if the Wizard was willing to receive me I was ready to wait.
Waiting in the sitting room adjacent to the consulting room my agitation had calmed down a bit and my mind from the tortuous stormy flights had begun to glide towards terra firma and I realized that a Wizard with an Article in the "Gazzettino" with a luxury apartment at Danieli plus a private secretary must certainly have been paid well for his advice.
I asked the secretary, once again to tell me that there was not long to wait, for the price of a consultation. At his answer I got up and with a smiling "Goodbye" I headed for the door.
"After waiting so long, will you go away now?" asked the secretary.
"It's not a question of time but of money," I said.
"Oh don't worry," said the secretary. "If you don't have it with you, he can take it tomorrow."
"I don't have that money here or at home." I said. And to be even clearer: "Neither in the bank." I added, turning the handle.
"Wait..." the secretary said, placing a hand on the door. "I'm sure that for a person like you the Wizard will be willing to make a ratazz... reatizz... in short, you will be able to pay in installments."
"No thanks. I would have to give up too many things to pay.
